Garden lawns are divided into 6 types:
- Parterre lawn
- Ordinary lawns
- Sports lawns
- Moorish or flowering lawns
- Shady lawns
- Alternative or lawns without grass
Lawns are often ascribed to lawn types. But this is rather a type, or a kind of technology for creating lawns, and not a separate type. Rolling lawns are also parterre or ordinary, sporty and even shade-tolerant. Choosing a sown lawn or stacking rolls will require a different preparation, and different care. But a separate kind of emerald areas a roll lawn should not be called.
Parterre lawns are also rightly called parade. These are really lawns, playing a purely decorative role, that is, as a decoration and an impeccable green carpet. They really look like living velvet, they are the most prestigious and aesthetically attractive kind of green lawns. On these lawns do not walk, they are unstable to the load and even playing animals can disrupt their ideal condition.
Parterre lawns are most often used where it is necessary to create an “ideal picture”. They are placed in the front garden, near the house, at the front flower gardens, emphasizing their beauty with the best of the objects of small architecture and garden sculpture. In this case, the rule in creating parterre lawns is only one – their area should exceed the area of decorative compositions that are nearby, and those objects that they “shade”.
The main advantages of parterre lawns:
- smooth and dense coating;
- immaculate emerald color;
- the highest decorativeness.
Parterre lawns are created from elite grass mixtures, consisting of meadow grass and timothy with addition of ryegrass, oatmeal and red fescue.
Ordinary or garden lawns
A lawn that withstands a certain load, but is decorative enough to remain an adornment of the plot, which does not require complex maintenance and creates a classical covering is an ordinary or garden lawn. It is these lawns that are created in urban parks and squares, they are stable, but lack endurance to heavy loads and absolute impeccability, it is a kind of intermediate variant between sports and ground lawns, a compromise between aesthetics and practicality.
The main advantages of ordinary lawns:
- the ability to create an emerald carpet on a complex terrain;
- availability of seeds.
Ordinary lawns are created predominantly from the common forage and the comb of the field. To increase stamina, red fescue, rye grass and meadow grass are added to this mixture.
Sports super-hardy lawns
Special types of lawns, capable of withstanding even a constant heavy load, are not in vain called sporty. These are lawns that create for golf courses, playgrounds and sports competitions.
Among the sports mixes, there are football, tennis, golf and lawns for children’s playgrounds, but they all have practically the same high endurance. They require very unusual and careful care, low mowing, and for private gardens such lawns are a rarity.
Sports lawns are sown or created from roller lawns. For them, a special drainage is laid and carefully thought out irrigation, any malfunctions in which will lead to a rapid loss of the decorative nature of the green carpet.
The main advantages of sports lawns:
- resistance to heavy loads and active movement;
- dense texture;
- low grass.
Sports lawns are sown from mixtures consisting of ryegrass pasture, meadow grass and fescue meadow grass. Norm of seeds for such lawns is 1,5-2 times more than when creating any other lawn. And the mixture itself is one of the most expensive.
The most colorful and picturesque of all kinds of lawns is known as Moorish, although with no less right it can be called a lawn blossoming. This is a unique type of lawns, created not only with the help of cereals, but also flowering or ornamental plants. It’s easy to create and even easier to take care of.
Today, often from the Mauritian, a meadow lawn is singled out separately, in which the cereals remain the dominant plants, but mainly local grasses are used, reinforced with soil cover, cultivated plants and some flowering herbs. But on the features of the creation, and even on the aesthetic characteristics of meadow and Mauritanian lawn is difficult to distinguish.
The main advantages of flowering lawns:
- perfectly fit in the landscape styles;
- do not require complex care;
- easy to grow;
- attract honey and butterflies.
To the usual lawn grasses, which still remain the basis of the Mauritanian lawn, seeds of forget-me-not, cloves, clover, cloves, poppies, daisies, flax, bells and other wildflowers are added.
Emerald carpets, capable of bearing shade and still look like a luxurious lawn, are used for landscaping of problem areas in the garden.
The main advantages of shady lawns:
- allow you to create a classic design, even on not too well-lit areas, including under trees;
- great endurance;
- simplified care;
- fast growth.
Shadow-tolerant plants are created from especially hardy, specially selected classical lawn grasses or ground cover plants – periwinkle, vivipants, hooves. Today, very popular lawns from mosses.
Lawns without grass
All types of lawn imitations, created with the help of not grasses, but ground cover plants, are called non-grassy lawns. They are broken to simplify the care of the garden, filling large areas without much effort or when they want to emphasize the style of decorating the garden with a carpet of a special texture.
The main advantages of non-grassy lawns:
- a natural, miraculous appearance;
- Attracts honey and insects;
- they are easy to create;
- such lawns almost do not require care;
- the choice of different types of plants allows you to achieve different decorative effects.
Non-grassy lawns are created from soil covers, which are suitable for lighting and soil characteristics. Favorites – Veronica, acena, periwinkle, zhivyachka, European chop, thyme, styliform phlox, clover, etc. A separate kind of non-grassy lawns – platforms covered with moss.
In addition to the basic types of lawns, other types of lawn grass mixtures can be found on the market today. Quickly restored lawns are used for repair and correction of existing lawns. For clay soils, roadsides and other heavily polluted areas, urban conditions, arid regions, there are special seed mixtures.
